The 1992 film Annamalai, which marked a huge leap in Rajinikanth's superstardom and his first collaboration with Suresh Krissna, will soon have a re-release.

The film will once again storm the screens from December 12, coinciding with Rajinikanth's 75th birthday.

The action drama features Rajinikanth as Annamalai, an ordinary milkman who is duped by his rich friend Ashok (Sarath Babu). Annamalai vows revenge as his house gets razed and his family (including cattle) is driven out. What ensues is an engaging cat-and-mouse game of Annamalai upstaging Ashok.

Annamalai's blockbuster success resulted in three more collaborations between Rajinikanth and Suresh Krissna: Veera (1994), Baashaa (1995), and Baba (2002). The film's interval monologue by Rajinikanth is still popular among Tamil fans.

Produced by K Balachander's Kavithalayaa, Annamalai also stars Khushbu, Rekha, Radha Ravi, Janagaraj, Nizhalgal Ravi, and Manorama.

The film has cinematography by PS Prakash, editing by Ganesh Kumar, and music by Deva.
