The shooting for CV Kumar's upcoming film XY has been completed, announced the makers on Thursday, sharing pictures with the cast and crew. The upcoming film is a part of the Maayavan cinematic universe - a universe surrounding the 2017 science fiction thriller Maayavan, which was also helmed by the director. 

The cast of the film, which includes newcomers Rathika Ravinder and Aniz Prabakar in lead roles. Varshini Venkat of Bigg Boss Tamil 8 fame, Srithar, Varshini, known for her stint in Super Singer Junior 10, Pragadeesh, Suganthi, Alageshwari, Cheran Husain, , Sheimour Roosevelt, Brana and Dheeran are part of the supporting cast. Plot details and a release date for XY are yet to be announced.

Maayavan starred Sundeep Kishan and Lavanya Tripathi in lead roles, while Jackie Shroff, Daniel Balaji, Mime Gopi, R Amarendran, Bagavathi Perumal, and Jayaprakash played supporting roles.

It is not yet known if XY is a sequel to the 2017 film or a standalone new movie. Earlier in 2023, a sequel to Maayavan titled Maaya One was announced with Sundeep Kishan returning to play the lead. A teaser was also unveiled a year ago, but no details regarding it were revealed after that. In a recent interview with Times of India, the director revealed that he is planning a five-part Mayavan universe and is working on Maaya One in Telugu, followed by more interconnected films.

Described as a "never-before-seen sci-fi saga that pushes the boundaries of imagination," the film reportedly blends science and destiny. It is also not known if Sundeep Kishan will come back to play a character in the new film.

On the technical crew, XY has Srikant Krishna as composer, cinematography by Hariharan Anandarajah, and editing by Prem K. NS Jegadeesan serves as the creative architect. It is backed by Shri Krish Pictures and Sri International Movies.
