After a victorious World Cup campaign, Indian Women's Cricket Team captain Harmanpreet Kaur visited Tamil Nadu recently for an event called the Chennai Super Champs, celebrating women's empowerment and women's cricket's growing prominence in the nation. At the event, Harmanpreet talked about the significance of discipline, hard work and determination for sporting success. She also made a reference to director Atlee's sports film Bigil, starring Vijay as the coach of the state's women's football team.
Harmanpreet was talking about how her team played for and pushed each other in the tournament to win it for the first time. "Everybody was aiming for the trophy," she said while adding that "trophies matter" was the underlying sentiment within her dressing room. Then, the event host asked her to say the same thing in Tamil, "Cup mukkiyum Bigilu," and she obliged. Her statement was met with big cheers from the audience.
Later, the X handle Actor Vijay Team shared the video, and Bigil filmmaker Atlee reposted it with love emoticons. In the sports film, Vijay's character says the now-popular line as part of motivating the women's team he coaches. It has since been a well-known catchphrase in Tamil Nadu, with people using it in non-film contexts, such as while referring to Vijay's future in politics.
