Just days after his Kaantha co-stars Rana Daggubati and Bhagyashri Borse described him as "The King of Acting," Dulquer Salmaan admitted that he is not one such actor. Speaking to Sudhir Srinivasan in a recent interview, Dulquer shared an insight that his father Mammootty once gave him about what great actors do. "My father once told me, 'Only a great actor can overact', and I do not believe I am a great actor. I do not think I ever overact. I might be under," the actor shared with a smile. He went on to add, "I think my meter is always normal to under. No matter how much I try to overact in this film, I do not think it will go to a caricaturish level," Dulquer said, addressing how he ensures such characters do not become a mere imitation of those from the era of black and white. For the uninitiated, Kaantha stars Dulquer as an actor in a period film who thinks he is the ultimate and who is having an ego battle with his director (Samuthirakani).

Dulquer also disclosed that it scares him when his co-stars praise his acting prowess with tags such as "great actor," "phenomenal actor," and "king of acting". The actor acknowledged that he has had his fair share of criticism from the audience over the years.
