On Tuesday, Silambarasan and Gautham Menon's second collaboration, Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada, clocked 9 years. The film, which hit theatres on November 11, 2016, marked the Tamil debut of Manjima Mohan. It was simultaneously made in Telugu as Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo, with Naga Chaitanya replacing Silambarasan.
Back around the film's release, Gautham Menon spoke about the idea of the film and revealed, in an interview with The Hindu, that the film was inspired by a scene in The Godfather. "The story is inspired by the scene in The Godfather where a bruised Michael Corleone plots revenge against the corrupt policeman McCluskey. I’ve portrayed cops as heroes for far too long, I think. So, this time, a cop is the bad guy," he said.
While production for Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada began in 2013, it was postponed until the filmmaker completed his other project, Yennai Arindhaal (2015), with Ajith Kumar. Speaking about postponing this film for his Ajith-starrer, Gautham said in another interview with the Bangalore Mirror, "I think the fact that Simbu, being a good friend, said that I need to go ahead and do this big project. Moreover, I didn’t want to let go of an opportunity to work with Ajith because I’ve always wished to team up with him, and you might not know, but it could also lead to so many other things."
The film also stars Baba Sehgal, Sathish Krishnan, Daniel Balaji, Sudhanshu Pandey, RNR Manohar, and Anjali Rao, among others. In the film, a young man takes a road trip with his girlfriend, but their adventure turns disastrous after a serious accident. The film features a film score and soundtrack album composed by AR Rahman, with lyrics by Thamarai. Upon release, the film opened to mixed reviews.
