Actor Simran opened up on stage about a fellow female actor who had hurt her with a few rude remarks at the JFW Movie Awards last month. Without naming the individual, Simran recounted how she had, out of concern, approached the actor to discuss her choice of roles, referring to them as “dabba roles”. In response, the actor had allegedly retorted, “It is better than taking up aunty roles,” a comment Simran said deeply hurt her.

The emotional moment from the event soon went viral on social media, prompting widespread speculation. Many netizens assumed Simran was referring to Jyotika, who recently starred in the series Dabba Cartel, while others believed the comment was aimed at actor Laila. However, Simran neither confirmed nor responded to any of these theories at the time.

Now, in a fresh interview with JFW, Simran has addressed the controversy and clarified her position. “People are just forming their own theories and creating rumours by breaking down every word of my speech. Dabba Cartel was a nice web series, like any other series that I have seen,” she said, putting the speculation to rest.

She went on to explain that her statement came from a place of personal hurt and that the message was received by the intended person. “The award stage was my stage, and I wanted to open up. I generally do not gossip or talk much about these things. But I was worried that I would be considered weak if I didn’t talk back. So I poured my heart out on that stage, as I was hurt. I understand that the actor gave her opinion, but there has to be a right choice of words. After I said those things at the event, I got a personal message from her apologising for hurting me.”

On the work front, Simran is riding high on the success of Tourist Family, directed by Abishan Jeevinth and headlined by Sasikumar. She also made a cameo appearance in Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly and will next be seen in Lokesh Kumar’s The Last One.
