Initially planned for a release on Pongal this year, actor Shanmuga Pandian's upcoming film Padai Thalaivan was pushed to May 23. Now the makers have announced the film's release has been delayed further, however without specifying the new release date.

The film's lead Shanmuga Pandian announced in his Instagram story that the delay has been caused by theatrical constraints. He added that the team has huddled to finalise a new release date.

Touted to be an action-adventure film, the earlier released trailer suggested that the plot would revolve around the male lead and the troubles created by his elephant. The film will have an AI-generated appearance of the late actor-politician and Shanmuga Pandian's father, Vijayakant.

The film's director U Anbu has previously made Walter (2020) and Rekhla (2022). Padai Thalaivan is billed to be an out-and-out action thriller made in the backdrop of forests.

In addition to Shanmugapandian, the cast features director and actor Kasthuri Raja, Yamini Chander, the granddaughter of veteran filmmaker AC Tirulokchander, Munishkanth, and Rishi Rithvik.

With music by Ilaiyaraaja, Padai Thalaivan has a screenplay and dialogues by director Parthiban Desingu. The technical team consists of cinematographer SR Sathish Kumar, editor S Elayaraja, and stunt choreography by Mahesh Mathew.
