Tributes and condolences have been pouring in from all quarters following the death of actor Manoj Bharathiraja. The son of noted veteran director Bharathiraja passed away on Tuesday following a cardiac arrest.
Several stars, directors, along with friends and family paid their last respect to the Taj Mahal actor. Kamal Haasan said he was "deeply shocked and saddened to hear the news" and said, "I express my deepest condolences to Bharathiraja, his family and friends, who are grieving the loss of him."
Actors Vijay and Suriya visited his residence to pay their respects and consoled his grieving father, while offering their support. Videos of their visit have been going viral on social media.
Actor Khushbu Sundar called Manoj’s death an ‘unbearable loss’ and wrote, "Extremely shocked to hear that Manoj is not among us anymore. His untimely demise pains. He was just 48 yrs. May God give the strength to his father Thiru Bharathiraaja and his family to overcome this unbearable painful loss. You will be missed Manoj. Rest in peace. Om Shanthi (sic)."
Directors Shankar and Venkat Prabhu too expressed his shock and grief on their X handle. The The Greatest of All Time director and said he was "gone too soon." On late Tuesday, composer Ilaiyaraaja shared a video message, noting that he was heartbroken upon hearing the passing of Manoj, the son of his friend Bharathi. "I am at a loss for words. While I wish such a tragedy had not befallen Bharathi, fate is beyond or control, we must accept it. I pray for Manoj's soul to rest in peace."
Born on September 11, 1976, Manoj made his acting debut with Taj Mahal (1999), directed by his father, written by Mani Ratnam.
He went on to act in films such as Samuthiram (2001), Alli Arjuna (2002), Varushamellam Vasantham (2002), Maha Nadigan (2004), Annakodi (2013), Champion (2019), Maanaadu (2021), and Viruman (2022). Manoj Bharathiraja made his directorial debut with Margazhi Thingal in 2023 where he directed his father. He made his web series debut with Prime Video's Snakes and Ladders in 2024.
