Dragon director Ashwath Marimuthu shared on social media a part from the "most important and exciting day of" his life, one which "he waited for so many years." On the day in which Vijay announced the release date of Jana Nayagan, reportedly his final film before his acting retirement and foray into politics, Ashwath shared pictures of him with the actor-politician and his Dragon team, including the film's star Pradeep Ranganathan and producer Archana Kalpathi. In an X post, Ashwath shared that he was in tears when he finally met Vijay, much to the "surprise" of his Dragon team. Ashwath also used a popular line from his directorial debut, 2020's Oh My Kadavule, reused in this year's Dragon, to express how much he loves Vijay: "Athelam ungaluku sonna puriyathu (You wouldn't understand it)."

He added that Vijay appreciated his writing for Dragon and thanked Jana Nayagan producer Jagadish as well as Dragon producer, AGS Cinemas' Archana Kalpathi, for arranging the meeting.
