We had earlier reported that Vijay and Genelia's Sachein, originally released in 2005, is gearing up for a grand re-release this summer to commemorate its 20th anniversary. On Friday, producer Kalaipuli S Thanu announced that the film will be released in theatres worldwide on April 18.

The romantic comedy, which was a massive hit upon its release, was directed by John Mahendran. The film also featured Bollywood actor Bipasha Basu in her Tamil debut. Apart from Vijay and Genelia, the cast also featured Vadivelu, Santhanam and late actor Raghuvaran.

The plot revolves around the titular character Sachein played by Vijay and Shalini, portrayed by Genelia. A few weeks back, Genelia shared her fond memories associated with the film and wrote, "Sachein - Has my heart always." She reminisced about her time working in the film and said, "One of my best shoots ever."

The score and soundtrack of Sachein, composed by Devi Sri Prasad, earned widespread acclaim and all of the songs were chartbusters. Jeeva and VT Vijayan handled the cinematography and editing respectively.
