Esakki Karvannan, known for making Tamil Kudimagan, last directed Paramasivan Fathima starring Vemal and Chaya Devi, which released to largely negative reviews from critics and audiences alike, is headlining and producing Aatti.

Aatti is directed by Kittu, who has helmed Methagu, a biopic of slain LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran.

The period film is said to be based on five resolute women in Tamil Nadu. The makers say the film will depict how much women were revered and respected in Tamil culture, and how they were deified as kuladeivams or ancestral deities. Also, the film is said to have been shot in such areas of Ooty and Coonoor where Tamil cinema hasn't stepped in yet.

Apart from Esakki, the star cast comprises Abi Natchathra, Kadhal Sugumar, Soundhar, among others.

Backed by Esakki's Lakshmi Creations, the film has music by Dheesan, cinematography by Sibi Sadhasivam, cuts by SM Ilangovan, and art direction by Mujibur Rahman.
