Kaali Venkat’s latest outing in the theatres, Madras Matinee, is all set to premiere on Sun NXT and Tentkotta on July 4. Helmed by Karthikeyan Mani, the film hit theatres on June 6 and opened to largely positive reviews.

Madras Matinee also stars Sathyaraj, Roshini Haripriyan, Vishva, George Maryan, Archana Chandhoke, Sunil Sukhada, Madhumitha, Chaams, Geetha Kailasam, and Bhanupriya are also a part of the ensemble cast of the film.

As per the official logline, Madras Matinee revolves around “an ageing sci-fi writer who is challenged by his caretaker to write about the common man. Reluctantly, he begins the story of Kannan, an auto driver, and his family, only to discover that ordinary life holds unexpected depth and drama.”

An excerpt from CE’s review of Madras Matinee reads, “While the writing doesn't always allow the characters to flourish, Madras Matinee has performances that get the job done. Kaali Venkat as the struggling Kannan, Roshni as the quietly strong Deepika, and debutant Vishva as Dinesh play their parts with conviction that firmly grounds their characters in our memory.”

Apart from direction, Karthikeyan Mani has also written the film. KC Balasarangan has handled the music for the film, with lyrics by Snekan. Anand GK is the director of photography, Satheesh Kumar Samuski is the editor, and Jacki is the art director. Abhishek Raaja serves as a creative producer with Harikrishnan GA as an executive producer. Dream Warrior Pictures is the presenter of Madras Matinee.
