We had reported early this year that Kalaiyarasan would headline debut director Sivaraj N's Trending. The makers announced on Wednesday that the film will be released in theatres on July 18.

Priyalaya, who has been a part of Santhanam's Inga Naan Thaan Kingu and Manikandan's Good Night, stars opposite Kalaiyarasan as the female lead. Actors Prem Kumar and Besant Ravi are part of the supporting cast.

Interestingly, the theme of the film is similar to the Kalaiyarasan-starrer segment 'Fame Game' in Vignesh Karthick's anthology film Hot Spot, released last year. The actor's last appearance came in Malayalam actor Shane Nigam's Tamil debut, Madraskaaran. He awaits the releases of Mugam and Thandakaaranyam, which are in different stages of production.

Trending is expected to explore the ugly turns a relationship between two social media influencers takes for the sake of staying in trend.

Backed by Ram Film Factory Production and Barefoot Production, Trending's technical crew comprises cinematographer Praveen Balu, editor Nagooran Ramachandran, music director Sam CS and stunt director Monster Mukesh.
