Following actor-politician Kamal Haasan's nomination into the Rajya Sabha, the office-bearers of South Indian Artistes Association (SIAA) paid a courtesy visit to the actor to congratulate him.

Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan's nomination, along with six others: P Wilson (DMK), Rajathi alias Salma (DMK), SR Sivalingam (DMK), IS Inbadurai (AIADMK) and M Dhanapal (AIADMK), were accepted and elected without opposition.

A total of 13 candidates applied for the Rajya Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu, out of which seven nominations, all by independent candidates, were rejected upon scrutiny. The lack of the required criteria was cited as the reason for the rejected candidatures.

On the work front, Kamal Haasan's recent release Thug Life, helmed by Mani Ratnam, received mixed to negative reviews upon release. The film also stars Trisha, Abhirami, Silambarasan TR, Joju George, Ashok Selvan, and Nasser in crucial roles.
