Thalaivan Thalaivii, the Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen-starrer, has wrapped up a strong first weekend at the box office. The film earned an estimated ₹9.02 crore on Sunday, building on the momentum from the previous two days, as per a report on Sacnilk.com. With this, the film’s total India net collection for the opening weekend stands at ₹20.77 crore.
After a decent start with ₹4.5 crore on Friday, the Pandiraaj directorial picked up significantly over the weekend, registering 61% growth on Saturday with ₹7.25 crore, and following it up with a healthy 24% jump on Sunday. The rise in footfalls, especially among family audiences in rural and semi-urban centres, points to the film’s growing popularity. The performances of the lead pair, their on-screen chemistry, and the blend of humour and emotional drama have continued to win praise.
In Thalaivan Thalaivii, Vijay Sethupathi plays Agasaveeran, and Nithya Menen essays the role of Perarasi, a married couple who bond over their love for cooking and food. Their post-marriage struggles and evolving dynamics form the heart of the story.
An excerpt from CE's review of the film reads, "Although the film is filled with characters with rather catchy names, Thalaivan Thalaivii is firmly about Aagaasaveeran and Perarasi. However, nothing in the film would move ahead without the presence of its crowded ensemble. And it is fascinating how this crowd grows in number as the film progresses.
In contrast, Maareesan, starring Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu, saw more modest weekend numbers. The film collected ₹1.39 crore on Sunday, taking its total three-day India net to ₹3.51 crore. While it witnessed a strong 82% jump on Day 2, the growth plateaued on Sunday with only a 1.46% increase.
Yogi Babu, Chemban Vinod Jose, Saravanan, Kaali Venkat, RK Suresh, Mynaa Nandhini, Deepa, Roshini Haripriyan, and Sendrayan round out the supporting cast of Thalaivan Thalaivii. Backed by Sathya Jyothi Films, the film features cinematography by M Sukumar, music by Santhosh Narayanan, and editing by Pradeep E Ragav.
