Word-of-mouth seems to be working strongly in favour of Thalaivan Thalaivii, especially among family audiences

After opening to decent numbers on its first day, Thalaivan Thalaivii, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen, witnessed a solid upward trend on Saturday. The rural drama, directed by Pandiraaj, collected an estimated ₹6.75 crore on Day 2, registering a 50% growth from its opening day figure of ₹4.5 crore, as per a report on Sacnilk.com. This takes the film’s two-day India net total to ₹11.25 crore.

Word-of-mouth seems to be working strongly in the film’s favour, especially among family audiences. The chemistry between Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen, along with the film’s humour-driven emotional narrative, has emerged as a major draw. The performances of the lead pair, in particular, have been widely appreciated by both critics and viewers.

In Thalaivan Thalaivii, Vijay Sethupathi plays Agasaveeran, and Nithya Menen essays the role of Perarasi, a married couple who bond over their love for cooking and food. Their post-marriage struggles and evolving dynamics form the heart of the story. Director Pandiraaj reins in the melodrama and instead relies on comedy that stems from their relationship and those around them.

An excerpt from CE's review of the film reads, "Although the film is filled with characters with rather catchy names, Thalaivan Thalaivii is firmly about Aagaasaveeran and Perarasi. However, nothing in the film would move ahead without the presence of its crowded ensemble. And it is interesting how this crowd grows in number as the film progresses.

The supporting cast includes Yogi Babu, Chemban Vinod Jose, Saravanan, Kaali Venkat, RK Suresh, Mynaa Nandhini, Deepa, Roshini Haripriyan, and Sendrayan. Backed by Sathya Jyothi Films, Thalaivan Thalaivii also benefits from a strong technical team, with M Sukumar handling cinematography, Santhosh Narayanan scoring the music, and Pradeep E Ragav taking care of editing duties.

Interestingly, the film marks Vijay Sethupathi’s 52nd outing and reunites him with Nithya Menen after their collaboration in the 2022 Malayalam drama 19(1)(a).

With Sunday expected to bring in more footfalls and continued positive reception, all eyes are on how far Thalaivan Thalaivii can push its weekend numbers.
