Maareesan, headlined by Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu, saw a significant boost in box office numbers on its second day. After collecting ₹0.75 crore on its opening day, the film registered an impressive 82.67% growth on Saturday, bringing in ₹1.37 crore, as per a report on Sacnilk.com. This takes its two-day India net total to an estimated ₹2.12 crore.

While the opening day collections were modest, Maareesan seems to be picking up steam through positive word-of-mouth. The film’s unconventional pairing and poignant storyline appear to be resonating with a niche but growing audience.

Directed by Sudheesh Shankar, Maareesan follows Dhaya (Fahadh Faasil), a thief who sets off on a road trip with Velayudham (Vadivelu), a man battling Alzheimer’s, with plans to rob him. However, what begins as a heist evolves into a life-changing journey for both. The film marks the second on-screen collaboration between Fahadh and Vadivelu after Maamannan (2023).

The supporting cast includes Vivek Prasanna, Sithara, PL Thenappan, Livingston, Renuka, Saravana Subbiah, Krishna, Haritha, and Telephone Raja. Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed the music with lyrics by Madhan Karky and Sabarivasan Shanmugam. The film also boasts strong technical support, with Kalaiselvan Sivaji on cinematography, Sreejith Sarang as editor, and Phoenix Prabu handling action choreography.

Produced by RB Choudary under the Super Good Films banner, Maareesan’s story, screenplay, and dialogues have been penned by creative producer V Krishna Moorthy. An excerpt from CE's review of the film reads, "What could have been a wholesome, thematically rich, and philosophically engaging road trip drama suddenly turns into a crime thriller loaded with simplistic social commentary."

In comparison, Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen’s Thalaivan Thalaivii has raced ahead with a two-day total of ₹11.25 crore. While Maareesan may not be matching the numbers, its near 83% jump on Saturday signals promising traction, especially among audiences looking for more grounded, character-driven narratives.
