Despite mixed responses from critics, Vijay Sethupathi-Nithya Menen's Thalaivan Thalaivii is turning out to be a fun-filled entertainer at the box office, setting cash registers ringing across Tamil Nadu. Director Pandiraaj's latest film has minted Rs 4.15 crore across India on the first day, becoming Vijay Sethupathi's best opening day in his career, according to several reports.
Vijay Sethupathi plays Agasaveeran and Nithya Menen portrays Perarasi. They are a couple who love cooking and eating food, and share a dynamic relationship with each other. Once they get married, issues start cropping up, leading to a major rift in their relationship. How they deal with it forms the core story of Thalaivan Thalaivii. Word-of-mouth reviews have also been strong for the rural entertainer, with many appreciating the lead actors' performances. Thalaivan Thalaivii brings Vijay and Nithya back together after their work on the 2022 Malayalam film 19(1)(a).
Our CE review of the film read, "Pandiraaj reins in the melodrama by relying on relentless comedy that is organically built out of the various relationships depicted in the film, especially the one between Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen's characters."
Yogi Babu, Chemban Vinod Jose, Saravanan, Kaali Venkat, RK Suresh, Mynaa Nandhini, Deepa, Roshini Haripriyan, and Sendrayan, among others play supporting characters. Thalaivan Thalaivii's post-theatrical rights have been bagged by Prime Video.
The film, Vijay Sethupathi’s 52nd, is produced under the Sathya Jyothi Films banner. On the technical front, the film has cinematographer M Sukumar, composer Santhosh Narayanan, and editor Pradeep E Ragav.
