Director Cheran, who last helmed the web series Cheran's Journey which was released last year, is all set to wear the director's hat once again for his first biopic titled Ayya - The Lion of Tamil Nadu, based on the life and political career of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder Ramadoss.

Sharing four posters which show glimpses of the 1987 Vanniyar reservation agitation, the makers wrote, "His voice roared for the voiceless. Now, his story roars on the big screen." The film is expected to delve into his early life, Ramadoss' politics with major focus on the 1987 protest that eventually led to the creation of 'Most Backward Caste' for the Vanniyar community and granting them 20 per cent reservation in 1989. The PMK emerged from these protests.

Aari Arujunan is taking on the lead role in the film. Expressing his happiness, Aari said, "Thrilled to be part of Ayya, the biopic of Dr. Ramadoss! Thanks to Director Cheran sir & Producer Tamil Kumaran for this opportunity Playing a main lead in The Lion of Tamil Nadu."

Further details regarding the rest of the cast members, including Ramadoss' son Anbumani Ramadoss and the roles they play, remain under wraps.

Anbumani Ramadoss is a doctor-turned-politician, rose to national prominence as the Union Health Minister during the UPA government (2004–2009), where he earned recognition for bold public health reforms, including a nationwide smoking ban and curbs on tobacco advertising. He is also a key face of the PMK.

The technical team of Ayya consists of cinematography by Ekhambram, music by Sundaramurthy KS and editing by Pon Kathiresh. GKM Tamil Kumaran is backing the film. A release date for the biopic is yet to be announced by the makers.
