On the eve of the trailer release of Suriya's Karuppu, the makers released a poster that offers a first look at Suriya's character. The film which is Suriya's 45th, is directed by RJ Balaji.

The poster shows Suriya clad in a black shirt and a veshti, smoking a cigar, and walking through a festival. The poster of the film also revealed that the trailer of the film is to be released on 10 am on July 23. The film seems to be in the vein of other films of Suriya's like Vel, Singam, and Etharkkum Thunindhavan.

The cast for Karuppu includes Trisha, Natty, Anagha Maya Ravi, Indrans, Swasika, and Sshivada. Suriya reunites with Trisha after sharing screen space in Manmadhan Ambu. Anagha Maya Ravi, who shot to fame for her performance in Alappuzha Gymkhana, is making her Tamil debut.

The crew of the film includes GK Vishnu as the director of photography, R Kalaivanan as the editor, Arun Venjaramoodu as the production designer, and Anbariv and Vikram Mor handling stunts. Sai Abhyankkar will compose music for the film, with lyrics by Vishnu Edavan, Asal Kolaar, and Arun Srinivasan. Aravendraj Baskaran is serving as the executive producer, with SR Prakash Prabhu and SR Prabhu serving as the producers. Dream Warrior Pictures is backing the film.
