It is well known that director Mari Selvaraj is reuniting with Dhanush for the actor's 56th project after the massive success of Karnan. The untitled film is being backed by Dr Ishari K Ganesh's Vels Film International. The previously released poster had the caption, "Roots begin a great war," suggestive of a historical story Mari had earlier hinted at. Now, after a long time, the Vaazhai director has opened up about a few details about the film.
Speaking at an event, Mari Selvaraj revealed that the upcoming project with Dhanush (D56) will be a milestone in his career. "We signed this film when I was working with Dhanush sir on Karnan. The film that we signed to do then was getting delayed for various reasons. It is a big project. In my life, I wanted to tell a simple story in a big way. This film is that project. I think this film will be a very important one. Work on this film has started and is going on," he said.
D56 will have music by AR Rahman. It will mark Rahman’s reunion with Mari Selvaraj after Maamannan (2023) and with Dhanush after Raayan (2024). Rahman has also composed for Dhanush’s films like Raanjhanaa (2013), Maryan (2013), and Atrangi Re (2021).
