Previously, we reported that Bharath would reprise his titular role of a cop from 2019’s murder mystery Kaalidas in an upcoming film from returning writer-director Sri Senthil. The Kaalidas 2 producer, K Senthil's Sky Pictures, dropped a teaser for the film through actor Ravi Mohan a while ago. The teaser opens with Bharath answering a call from a woman in distress and offers a glimpse into the film's plot, which revolves around Inspector Kaalidas trying to solve another series of connected murders. The 2019 film Kaalidas also revolves around the titular character looking into murders with connections to the infamous Blue Whale Challenge.

The film, which comes with the tagline "Crime and Punishment," also stars Ajay Karthi as a negative character, Prakash Raj as a lawyer, and Kishore in a key role. It marks Sangita's comeback to the Tamil film industry after a long gap, with her last documented credit being 1999’s Jayam. Suresh Menon, Bhavani Sre, Anant Nag, Raja Ravindra, DM Karthik, and Abarnathi round out the cast.

In a recent conversation with CE, director Sri Senthil said that the film is not a direct sequel but rather a standalone feature. He stated, "I wanted to make another crime thriller with a police officer as the central character. At the time of writing the film, I thought, ‘Why not bring back Kaalidas instead of creating another character from scratch?’”

Kaalidas 2 has been filmed in Chennai and Kerala. On the technical front, it has composer Sam CS, cinematographer Suresh Bala, editor Bhuvan Srinivasan, and action choreographer Om Prakash.
