Today marks three years since the theatrical release of Gargi, starring Sai Pallavi and Kaali Venkat. On the special occasion, Gargi actor and co-producer Aishwarya Lekshmi took to Instagram to share a special note looking back at the film's journey and praising its lead actor Sai Pallavi. She shared a poster of the film featuring Sai Pallavi's character and wrote, "3 years of our Gargi and maybe 9 years of growing & loving cinema together with this absolutely amazing human."
Aishwarya also tagged the film's director Gautham Ramachandran and wrote, "Soooo ready for our next journey," teasing a potential project with the latter. However, Aishwarya did not reveal further details about it.
Gargi follows a woman's (Sai Pallavi) fight for justice after her father (RS Shivaji) faces sexual abuse allegations. Aishwarya Lekshmi plays a reporter in the film. Director Gautham, who also served as Gargi's producer, and its production banner 2D Entertainment marked its three-year anniversary with a post that ties back to its themes. "Every time someone does the right thing, the world becomes a better place to live in. Three years since justice was served," they wrote.
At the time of its release, Gargi was met with critical acclaim. Critics took a special note of Gautham's understated storytelling, devoid of preachy messages, as well as Sai Pallavi, Kaali Venkat, and RS Shivaji's performances. In CE's review, Sudhir Srinivasan called it "a powerful and important film" and wrote, "The uniqueness of Gargi, the film, is how it shifts the focus from the conventional victim to a different sort of victim, one related to an accused. Through this choice, the film explores many biases—of the legal system, of Gargi, and why, of us too."
Gargi is available for streaming on SonyLIV.
