Appukutty's Piranthanaal Vazhthukal gets a release date

Piranthanaal Vazhthukal marks the Tamil debut of the Malayalam director Raju Chandra

Days after the film's first look was revealed by the makers, Appukutty starrer Piranthanaal Vazhthukal got a release date.

The film will be releasing in theatres on February 21. The announcement was accompanied by a trailer glimpse that shows a village that celebrates death more than birthday. Appukutty's character, an alcoholic who is looked down on by the villagers for some strange reason, pretends to be dead. The comedy film looks to have an emotional element to it.

Piranthanaal Vazhthukal marks the Tamil debut of the Malayalam director Raju Chandra. He has made Jimmy Ee Veedinte Aiswaryam (2019), starring Mithun Ramesh, Divya Pillai and Suraj Venjaramoodu, and I Am a Father (2022), starring Maheen K, Madhusoodanan and Anupama VP. He also wrote the story of the Kunchacko Boban-led Shikkari Shambhu (2018).

Made in a rural backdrop with a social message, the film is shot in Pollachi, areas nearby Aliyar Dam and Wagamon in Kerala.

Produced by Roji Mathew and Raju Chandra under the Plan 3 Studios and Mathens Group, the film also features Aishwarya Anilkumar, Sreeja Ravi, Roji Mathew, Santhosh Swaminathan, Eswari, Neela Karunakaran, Sulfiya Majeed, Rakhendu, Inbarasu, Vishnu, Velmurugan, Vinu Achuthan, Rukmani Babu, Bhaktavatsalan, Amit Madhavan, Vipin Dev and Vineeth.

The film's technical crew has director Raju as the cinematographer, editor Thahir Hamsa, music composers GKV and Navaneet and art director Vinod Kumar.
