AR Rahman launches Naga International Studio in Nagaland

Nagaland CM Dr Neiphiu Rio has promised complete support for Rahman from his government

Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman is set to have a facility to produce music and foster creativity in Kohima, Nagaland. The other day, the singer-composer and Nagaland's Chief Minister, Dr Neiphiu Rio, launched Naga International Studio's establishment in the city. According to a press release, it will have an auditorium for performances, high-end recording facilities, and creative infrastructure to support music production. CM Neiphiu Rio welcomed AR Rahman to his village, Touphema, and expressed his gratitude to the composer for introducing this landmark project to the state. The CM said that it reflects Rahman's love and care for the people of Nagaland and how committed he is to nurturing artistic talent in the far-flung areas of the country. Neiphiu Rio has also promised complete support for Rahman from his government. "This is a meaningful step that reflects our shared commitment to nurturing creativity, innovation, and supporting creative talent. I wish this initiative growth, excellence, and impact," the CM stated.

On the other hand, Rahman thanked the government of Nagaland and its people for their support and warm welcome. “Nagaland has a rare musical soul which is honest, original, and deeply rooted in its culture. The Naga International Studio is envisioned as a space where this heritage can meet world class creativity, allowing young artists from the region to collaborate, experiment, and create music that resonates not just nationally, but globally. I am grateful to Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio, the Government of Nagaland and TAFMA for their vision and support in making this dream possible,” Rahman said.

The composer has also unveiled the trailer for Headhunting to Beatboxing, the documentary that he produced and Rohit Gupta directed and that explores Nagaland’s growing creative identity and its musical renaissance.

The Naga International Studio is set to position the state as a creative hub with much importance for not just the Northeast but beyond.
