After its release in Tamil Nadu earlier this December, director Vipin Radhakrishnan's Angammal, starring Geetha Kailasam in the titular role, is hitting theatres in Kerala. Earlier today, the film's makers took to social media to announce that it is scheduled for a January 02 release in the state. While the makers made the announcement with a Malayalam poster, in an exclusive conversation with CE, director Vipin clarified that it is releasing in Kerala in its original language only. Dileesh Pothan's Bhavana Studios serves as the film's Kerala distributor.

The film has already earned unanimous critical appreciation, with reviewers praising the treatment of its sensitive subject matter and the performances, led by Geetha Kailasam.

Based on Perumal Murugan's story, Kodithuni, Angammal revolves around an intense battle between an old woman (Geetha) and her city slicker son (Saran Sakthi). When the youngster insists on his mother wearing a traditional saree and blouse in anticipation of his marriage, she refuses to do so, causing plenty of intense discourse in the family.

The film also stars Bharani, Thendral Raghunathan, and Mullaiyarasi in important supporting roles. According to Sacnilk, the film earned a little over 60 lakh from theatres over the first seven days of its release.
