At the Kombuseevi audio launch event the other day, R Sarathkumar delivered an emotional speech about Vijayakanth and recalled a humorous story about his role in Pulan Visaranai, co-starring the late actor. Sarathkumar said that he landed a role in the 1990 film thanks to Vijayakanth's makeup artist Raju. The actor shared that director Ponram is a major reason for him starring in Kombuseevi, although it is the presence of Vijayakanth's son, actor Shanmuga Pandian that made him want to be part of it even more. Sarathkumar revealed that Raju approached him at a difficult point of his career for a villain role in the film and told Vijayakanth that he was ready to play the character. "Vijayakanth sir asked me to meet director Selvamani. I think Vijayakanth sir decided to have me onboard after meeting me," Sarathkumar revealed.

Sarathkumar also disclosed that he heard a comment about him having a mustache, which he said was not what the makers were seeking for the character. "I went to a barber shop nearby, had my mustache removed, went to Selvamani sir and told him, 'This is how I would look without it'. That is where my acting journey started, and it has been unforgettable," Sarathkumar shared.

Sarathkumar also reminisced about Vijayakanth's compliment for him after watching the 1990 film. "He told me something no other hero would say, which is why I still have it deeply ingrained in my mind. After watching the film, he told me, 'Sarath, this film would give you the biggest praise'. I asked him 'What are you saying, sir?' He replied, stating, 'You did that good a job in the film.'"

Sarathkumar will next be seen in a role with an element of comedy in Ponram's Kombuseevi, which is slated for a December 19 release in theatres.
