Pa Ranjith's Sarpatta Parambarai to get a theatrical release before the release of the sequel. Reportedly the release has been planned as the first part did not get a theatrical release.

Sarpatta Parambarai released in 2021, directly on Prime Video. The sports drama got positive critical acclaimation upon its release, from critics and audiences. The sports drama, set during the 1970s chronicles the story of two warring boxing clans, through the eye of an underdog, Kabilan (Arya).

The cast for the film also includes Pasupathy, Dushara Vijayan, John Vijay, Kalaiyarasan, Anupama Kumar, John Kokken, and Shabeer Kallarakal, among others.

A sequel for the film was announced in March 2023, with Ranjith announcing that Kabilan will return for the sequel too. The director also revealed that he will be working on Sarpatta Parambarai 2 after he completes his upcoming film, Vettuvam.
