The Netflix film Stephen, starring Gomathi Shankar in the lead, has opened to mostly mixed reviews from critics. In the meantime, actor Suriya took to social media to express his appreciation for the psychological thriller, directed by Mithun Balaji. Suriya took special note of Gomathi Shankar's performance in the lead role. "Gomathi Shankar has taken on a tough role in a well thought-out screenplay. The film maintains its mood throughout," Suriya wrote. The film follows a serial killer's self-confession following the disappearance of nine girls. When a psychiatrist looks into the case, it becomes apparent that there is more to the killer's confession than meets the eye.

Besides sharing his Stephen movie review, Suriya showed his appreciation for the short film titled Pechi, starring Rajamuthu. The actor described Rajamuthu's performance as "a deeply moving gut wrenching performance." The short film, which is streaming on YouTube, follows a shepherd's journey back home after he comes to know about his mother's passing. With only his goat to provide him some support, an impoverished Mariyappan makes the arduous journey pushing himself through not just heat but also humiliation from a society rife with caste discrimination.
