The makers of Vaa Vaathiyaar have officially announced the postponement of the film's release, through a new promo video. The Karthi-headliner which was posed to release on December 12, has now been delayed in response to the order passed by the Madras High Court.

The Madras High Court ordered Vaa Vaathiyaar's producer KE Gnanavel Raja, to repay the total dues of Rs 21,78,50,000. The sum is a total of the initial amount borrowed and the interest. The producer had borrowed the amount from K Arjunlal Sunderdas, who is currently being represented by the Official Assignee of the High Court.

Vaa Vaathiyaar was earlier set to release on December 5. The film was subsequently postponed to December 12, due to an earlier Madras High Court hearing regarding the same decree.

Vaa Vaathiyar is directed by Nalan Kumaraswamy, in his third feature venture, after Soodhu Kavvum (2013) and Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum (2016).

The cast of Vaa Vaathiyaar also includes Krithi Shetty, Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, Anand Raj, Shilpa Manjunath, Karunakaran, GM Sundar, Ramesh Thilak, PL Thenappan, Vidhya Borgia, Nivas Adthitan, Madhur Mittal, among others.
