Actor Rajinikanth, whose 1999 blockbuster Padayappa is set for a re-release on his 75th birthday on December 12, revealed that he took a conscious choice not to sell the OTT rights of the film to any platforms.

In a special video address ahead of the film's re-release, the actor spoke about his experiences working in the KS Ravikumar directorial. He said that Padayappa was a proper theatrical material and he did not want to reduce it to a small screen experience. He added, "There are many ways to earn money; this was something I did not want to do despite getting a lot of offers. Except for the satellite rights, I did not want to sell its digital rights."

In the video, he also said there are plans for Padayappa 2 from the point of view of Neelambari.

Padayappa also starred Sivaji Ganesan, Soundarya, Radha Ravi, Nassar, Manivannan, and Abbas. Produced by Rajinikanth's Arunachala Cine Creations, the film had music by AR Rahman.
