Actor Geetha Kailasam is garnering plenty of critical appreciation for her titular role in the latest rural drama Angammal, which hails from director Vipin Radhakrishnan. Recently, Geetha talked exclusively to CE about the physical effort she took to portray her character with conviction. The actor said that she is usually not aware of the camera's position while acting in a film, which contributed to her questioning the need to climb a tall and slopy mountain during its shoot. "I did not know why I was climbing it, but I did it for the film. I felt tired and experienced leg and knee pain by the time I reached the top. However, it is not shown as a mountain in Angammal. It is just a rock in the film."

However, the actor also said that in hindsight, she realised that the physical effort helped portray her character authentically. "I gave an expression in that mood," the actor revealed, referring to the scene where she can be seen thinking to herself beside a rock. For Geetha, it is not mandatory to deliver the exact same expression as on paper at a particular point in a film. "Everything would fall into place naturally," she said to CE about the spontaneity involved in acting.

A film adaptation of Perumal Murugan's Kodithuni, Angammal tells the story of a woman who insists on the non-use of a saree and blouse in spite of her city-based son's constant request. The drama, which has enjoyed a successful run at the festival circuit, has finally hit theatres thanks partly to the involvement of Karthik Subbaraj's banner Stone Bench Films. For a long time, the film's makers faced uncertainty over its release due to the unavailability of a distributor. However, it has finally opened in theatres to many positive reviews from audiences and critics.
