Rajinikanth's iconic 1993 film Ejamaan, starring himself and Meena in lead roles is reportedly set for a re-release on December 12, which marks the star's 75th birthday. As per reports, the action drama, directed by RV Udhayakumar, is getting a grand release on the date with a digitally enhanced print and sound effects. An official confirmation regarding the same is awaited from the makers.
Produced under AVM Productions, the film also starred Aishwarya, MN Nambiar, Manorama, Vijayakumar and Napoleon in key roles. The film revolves around Vaanavarayan (Rajinikanth), a chieftain who is loved by everyone in the village. His arch rival Vallavarayan (Napoleon) poisons his wife Vaitheeswari (Meena), making her incapable of conceiving a child. On her deathbed, his wife makes him promise to marry another woman who worships him. The rest of the film sees him taking revenge against those who wronged her. The film was a commercial hit and ran for over 175 years at the box office. Its songs, composed by Ilaiyaaraja, were also well-received by the audiences and remains memorable among fans till date.
This year has particularly been special for Rajinikanth as it marks his golden jubilee year in cinema. He was recently felicitated with a lifetime achievement award at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa where he received a standing ovation from top celebrities from across languages who were present in the hall. Speaking at the event, he said, "If I look back, it seems like I've just been acting for around for 10 to 15 years and that's because I love cinema and acting. Even if I were to have 100 janmam (births), I would like to be born as an actor, as Rajinikanth. Thank you for love and affection," he said, adding, "All this honour goes to Cinema Industry people and mainly Ennai Vaazhaveikum Dheivangalana Tamil Makkal (The Tamil people, the gods who keep me alive)."
