Producer Suresh Subramaniam, who recently backed Bigg Boss Tamil-fame Raju Jeyamohan's romantic drama Bun Butter Jam, has announced that he is working on a Hollywood film. Currently in the pre-production stage, the new film, billed as a spiritual drama, has been titled Sharkey.
According to a statement released by the makers, the upcoming film, directed by Suresh himself, revolves around a young father who suffers from Alzheimer’s and gradually forgets important aspects of his life. Later, when memories resurface in his old age, the story follows how he responds to them. Sharkey has been created as an anthology, he revealed, adding that it will focus on three characters. Suresh is also turning an actor for the film, taking on the role of a prisoner in it. The producer also expressed his interest of showcasing an unexplored landscape for this film and plans of filming in the US. An official announcement regarding the same is expected to be announced soon.
Meanwhile, Suresh also opened up about plans of making another spiritual film, a thriller story set in Thiruvannamalai. "Before Bun Butter Jam, we had actually discussed two other scripts, a spiritual thriller set in Tiruvannamalai and another thriller. However, midway we decided to go ahead with Bun Butter Jam. Now, I am once again focusing on those two stories," he said in the statement.
The director, who has previously backed Jai's Yenni Thuniga (2022), highlighted how he thriller will feature an established actor fronting the film. "We are doing extensive research for this project. Personally, I’ve always loved mythological, epic, science-fiction, and fantasy stories, and today’s audiences are also embracing such genres. Of course, films like Bun Butter Jam are made because love stories are the current trend. In the past, a trend would last a decade, then five years, but now it changes almost every year. That gives us the freedom to confidently make films across genres," he added.
Meanwhile, Bun Butter Jam, released in theatres on July 18 across Tamil Nadu, has now been dubbed and released in 200 theatres across the Telugu states. Suresh, who backed the film through his banner Rain of Arrows, said that he initially wanted to play the character that Vikranth portrayed in the film. "When we screened Bun Butter Jam in the US, the response was very encouraging. In my first film Yenni Thuniga, I even played a key role. While scripting Bun Butter Jam, I initially thought of playing the character that Vikranth eventually portrayed. But since the role was quite powerful, I felt it would be better if a well-known actor played it, and I conveyed the same to the director," he said.
Directed by Raghav Mirdath, Bun Butter Jam also starred Aadya Prasad and Bhavya Trikha in lead roles. Saranya Ponvannan, Charlie, Michael Thangadurai, and VJ Pappu played supporting roles. Besides directing, Raghav also serves as the film's writer. The film received mixed reviews upon release.
