Leo, the 2023 Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial starring Vijay in the lead role, is set to hit theatres again in Kerala on October 19 this year. The rerelease is an endeavour by the Vijay fans association Priyamudan Nanbans. The fans club shared a poster for the film's rerelease featuring Vijay's character going up against a hyena. The caption reads, "Keralathil veendum Leo Das tharangam" (Leo Das wave hits again in Kerala). The film's rerelease marks the second anniversary of the Vijay starrer. Leo originally hit theatres on October 19, 2023, and it reportedly became the highest-grossing Tamil film at the box office in Kerala—a record it stills holds.
Leo tells the story of a man who leaves his violent past and tries to lead a simple life with his family. However, his dark past catches up with him, making him reveal the truth about his identity. The film also stars Trisha, Arjun, Sanjay Dutt, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and George Maryan, among others. Sanjay recently expressed his dissatisfaction for the role.
The film marked the third entry in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, also known as LCU, which now includes Coolie, Lokesh' film with Rajinikanth. The film is produced by SS Lalit Kumar of Seven Screen Studio, with Vijay's manager, Jagadish Palanisamy, serving as a co-producer.
The film, inspired by filmmaker David Cronenberg's 2005 feature A History of Violence, reunited Vijay with his Master director Lokesh. The fan frenzy around the film's release was such that when Lokesh visited a Palakkad-based theatre for its promotion, he even picked up an injury.
