In a recent conversation with Sudhir Srinivasan on his namesake YouTube channel, filmmaker Mysskin said that there has only been two great Tamil films in the last 25 years: Kottukkaali and Kadaisi Vivasayi. The filmmaker reserved special praise for the open ending of Kottukkaali, directed by PS Vinothraj, where the screen cuts to black as Soori's character thinks about something. Mysskin suggested that it is cut with surgical precision.

Kottukkaali tells the story of Meena, a girl (Anna Ben) who decides not to speak a word after seeing the injustices around her and against her. Her relative Paandi, played by Soori, wants to marry Meena even as she is in love with a boy who hails from an oppressed community. However, like his family, Paandi also feels that Meena does not speak because she is under some sort of "spell". The film follows their journey to a seer to free Meena from the so-called negative influence that has enveloped her.

On the other hand, Kadaisi Vivasayi tells the story of the lone surviving farmer (Nallandi) whose villagers use his wisdom to save their drought-ridden land. Directed by M Manikandan, the film also stars Vijay Sethupathi, Raichel Rebecca, Yogi Babu, Kaali Pandian, Muniswaran, and Jayalalitha.

As he praised both films, Mysskin said that he would not include his own directorials in the list of great films of the last 25 years. He acknowledged the fact that his opinion is unlikely to go down well with people. Mysskin's upcoming film is Train, where he collaborates with one of his favourite films Kadaisi Vivasayi's actor Vijay Sethupathi and reunite with his frequent collaborator Narain. Train also stars Shruti Haasan in a cameo role.
