Composer James Vasanthan took to social media to share his thoughts about the song 'Oodha Colour Ribbon' (Purple Colour Ribbon), a song from the Sivakarthikeyan starrer, Varuthapadadha Valibar Sangam. The 2013 film, was directed by Ponram, with music composed by D Imman.

James wrote on Facebook, "When I was searching for something (on the internet), I happened to look at the visual of 'Oodha Colour Ribbon'. In the song, which is about a purple colour ribbon, Sivakarthikeyan could be seen performing with a blue colour ribbon." Hitting out at this factual error James said, "A crew which is not aware of the Tamil language, has sat together, created something which has taught an entire generation, the wrong thing. Shame!"

James further wrote, "Wouldn't crores of viewers look at this and infer that Oodha means purple? Think about the situation of children. Oodha is a colour which is a mix of red and blue similar to the colour of a brinjal. Purple or Violet."
