Upon its theatrical release on July 4, director Ram's Paranthu Po won praise from critics and audiences alike for conveying a pertinent message on parenting lightly.
Reports suggest that the film has earned around Rs 10 crore (Rs 9.15 crore approx.) after its theatrical run in Tamil Nadu, which is said to be the highest-grossing film in the director's filmography. The makers announced on Sunday that the film starring Shiva, Grace Antony and Mitul will stream on JioHotstar on August 5.
Paranthu Po won praise as it is a departure from the Ram-style serious and intense filmmaking. Shiva and Grace Antony's performances, too, were widely appreciated. An excerpt from the CE Review reads, "Paranthu Po is the unlikeliest Ram film, but it does have layers that scream Ram from the top of a mountain. Ram’s films have always been rather heavy yet hopeful, but this time around, he has decided to make a rather light-hearted film that is still hopeful, but with a sense of pragmatism."
The film also stars Anjali and Aju Varghese in his Tamil debut.
Ram, V Gunasekaran, V Karupuchaamy, and V Shankar are the producers of the film. JioHotstar, GKS Bros Production, and Seven Seas Seven Hills Productions backed the film.
