As reported earlier, Dhanush and Mari Selvaraj are coming together for the former's 56th film, which is set to be produced by Vels Film International. The latest update is that AR Rahman is the music composer for the upcoming film, which is tentatively titled D56.

At the pre-release event of actor Shiva’s Sumo, which is also produced by Vels Film International, producer Ishari K Ganesh revealed that AR Rahman is the composer for D56. Further, he also revealed that there’s another Dhanush film that they’re producing under the Vels banner. While he said that the official announcement will be made soon, speculations suggest that he was referring to a film helmed by Por Thozhil director Vignesh Raja.

While the official announcement from Vels Film International is awaited, D56 will mark Rahman’s reunion with Mari Selvaraj after Maamannan (2023) and with Dhanush after Raayan (2024). Rahman has also composed for Dhanush’s films like Raanjhanaa (2013), Maryan (2013), and Atrangi Re (2021).

Ishari Ganesh also revealed that Dhanush will finish his other film with the banner before beginning work on D56. The upcoming film marks Dhanush and Mari’s sophomore collaboration after Karnan (2021).

Meanwhile, Dhanush, last seen in Raayan, has his 51st film, Kuberaa, helmed by Shekhar Kammula, gearing up for release on June 20. He also has his 52nd and fourth directorial Idly Kadai, which is set to hit theatres on October 1. The film also stars Nithya Menen and Arun Vijay in prominent roles. Dhanush’s 53rd, Tere Ishk Mein helmed by Aanand L Rai, is also in the pipeline.

Mari Selvaraj, meanwhile, last made Vaazhai and recently wrapped filming for his fifth film, Bison: Kaalamaadan, a sports drama film that stars Dhruv Vikram and Anupama Parameswaran in the lead.
