Previously, we reported that director Hari and actor Prashanth are teaming up for a new film, tentatively titled Prashanth 55. The official announcement about the project was made on April 6, coinciding with Prashanth’s birthday. Other than confirming Hari as the director and Prashanth as the lead, no additional details about the crew or cast have been revealed so far. Sources close to the production have now confirmed that the shooting for the film is scheduled to begin in Chennai this coming June.

Prashanth’s previous film, Andhagan, released last year, received a positive response and proved profitable for distributors. As a result, ever since the announcement of Prashanth 55, there has been competition among distributors to acquire the Tamil Nadu distribution rights.

The upcoming film marks the sophomore collaboration between Prashanth and Hari after their 2002 film Thamizh. The actor and director are all set to join hands after 23 years. Since this is the second collaboration between the two, and given Hari’s track record of successful commercial films, expectations for this project are quite high.

The yet-to-be-titled film is produced by actor, director and producer Thiagarajan, Prashanth’s father, under the Staar Movies banner. The film is being shaped as a family entertainer with elements of action and sentiment. While several top actors are expected to join the cast, the selection for the female lead is currently underway. Meanwhile, Prashanth has already begun intense physical training in preparation for his 55th film.
