After being delayed multiple times, Sumo, starring Mirchi Shiva, has been given a release date by the makers on Friday.

Revealing a poster, it was announced that Sumo will be releasing in theatres on April 25.

SP Hosimin, who previously helmed Bharath-starrer February 14 and Shanthanu's Aayiram Vilakku, is making a comeback as a director through Sumo, produced by Ishakri K Ganesh's Vels Film International.

The film, which was in the making since 2019, underwent multiple delays due to production issues and later due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Apart from Shiva and Priya Anand, who will be sharing the screen after Vanakkam Chennai (2013), Sumo also stars real-life Japanese sumo wrestler Yoshinori Tashiro. VTV Ganesh, Yogi Babu, Chetan, Besant Ravi and Srinath round out the supporting cast of the film.

The comedy entertainer revolves around the character of Yoshinori Tashiro, a sumo who has an IQ of a one-and-a-half-year-old baby who enters the life of Shiva after the latter finds him at a beach shore in India. What happens when Shiva tries to take him back to Japan, and how Yoshinori's character finds his purpose forms the rest of the story.

On the technical team, Sumo has music by Nivas K Prasanna, cinematography by Rajiv Menon and editing by Praveen KL.
