Director TJ Gnanavel, who is gearing up for his upcoming film Rajinikanth-led Vettaiyan, lauded his male lead for creating a mass moment even out of an ordinary scene at the film's audio launch event on Friday.

He said in his adddress that his favourite Rajinikanth mass moment in Padaiyappa's popular 'Oonjal' scene. He added there is no need to write a separate mass moment for him and that he controlled himself whenever he wanted to write, sometimes going out of the story to cater to Rajini's stardom.

He also thanked actor Suriya for trusting him and giving him the opportunity to helm Jai Bhim, which he called the reason to be present here right now. Recalling how Vettaiyan happened, Gnanavel said that Soundarya asked him if he has any script that would suit her father (Rajinikanth), to which he asked whether her dad knows this, in a funny manner.

Earlier, Amitabh Bachchan, in his video address, called Rajinikanth the "supreme star of all the stars."

Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan stars an ensemble cast that includes Amitabh Bachchan (in his Tamil debut), Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan and VJ Rakshan. Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth are reuniting for this film after 33 years. Their last film was Hum, which was released in 1991.

The cast had recently finished dubbing for their portions in the film.

On the technical crew, Vettaiyan has music by Anirudh. This marks Anirudh's fourth collaboration with Rajinikanth after Petta (2019), Darbar (2020), and Jailer (2023). Other members include cinematographer SR Kathir and editor Philomin Raj.

Vettaiyan is scheduled to hit theatres on October 10 in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada.
