Within the first weekend, Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel has crossed the Rs 200 crore mark and has earned over Rs 240 crores at the global box office. Sharing the news, Lyca Productions wrote, "Vettaiyan crosses 240+ crores worldwide and still counting! Thalaivar's dominance knows no bounds. The hunt continues!"

As reported by Sacnilk.com, Vettaiyan earned Rs 104.75 crore net in India within its first four days. The film opened strong with Rs 31.7 crore on its debut day, followed by Rs 24 crore on Friday, Rs 26.5 crore on Saturday, and Rs 22.3 crore on Sunday.

The police thriller boasts of an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Dushara Vijayan, Abhirami, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Rohini, and VJ Rakshan. Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan reunite after 33 years for the film, after their last outing Hum.

Vettaiyan revolves around Athiyan (Rajinikanth), a cop who is renowned for specialising in encounters. On the opposite end of the spectrum, there is Sathyadev (Amitabh Bachchan), who believes that encounters are an unjust means of dealing with crime. The film puts these two people at loggerheads and raises questions on police taking justice in their own hands. Interestingly, Gnanavel worked as a journalist before making his film debut.

On the technical team, the film has music by Anirudh, cinematography handled by SR Kathir, and editing by Philomin Raj.
