Earlier, we reported that Phoenix, the directorial debut of action choreographer Anl Arasu, will release on November 14, Thursday. However, the production banner of the film, AK Braveman Picturess of Rajalakshmy Arasakumar, announced earlier today that it will hit theatres on a different day. Promising to announce a new release date soon, the makers attributed the decision to postpone its release to cuts from the Censor Board for certification. In the meantime, they hint at modifications to the film to "bring the best possible cinematic experience, with greater excitement and anticipation." The makers say in a statement, "We promise Phoenix (Veezhan) will rise stronger than ever, and when it does, it will be with a bang."

The film introduces Vijay Sethupathi's son Surya in a lead role. The cast of Phoenix also includes Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Harish Uthaman.

The recent teaser for Phoenix shows Surya as a professional boxer who goes behind bars for a mysterious reason. According to the trailer, he treats boxing with the same importance as his life, but it also shows someone else planning a jailbreak.

Surya has appeared as a child artist in his father's films Naanum Rowdy Dhaan and Sindhubaadh. The star cast of Phoenix also includes Muthukumar, Sampath, Dileepan, Vignesh, Varsha Viswanath, Abi Nakshatra, Sathya NJ, 'Atti' Rishi, and Poovaiyar.

Anl Arasu himself doubles up as the stunt choreographer for the film. The technical crew of Phoenix also includes music director Sam CS, cinemetographer R Velraj, and editor Praveen KL.
