Makers of actor Dhanush's Raayan have announced the first single's release date, on Monday.

Accordingly, the song will drop on May 9. Dhanush's role has been characterised as Ravana, with an image of the mythical personality behind.

Without specifying the date, the film is slated to have its theatrical release in June.

Apart from Dhanush, the cast also features Kalidas Jayaram, Sundeep Kishan, SJ Suryah, Prakash Raj, Selvaraghavan, Dushara Vijayan, Aparna Balamurali and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in pivotal roles.

The shooting of Raayan, which is directed by Dhanush and bankrolled by Sun Pictures, was wrapped in December last year and is currently in the post-production stage.

The technical team has music by AR Rahman, cinematography by Om Prakash, editing by Prasanna GK, and action choreography by Peter Hein.

Besides Raayan, Dhanush's big line-up includes Shekhar Kammula's Kubera, Mari Selvaraj's D 52, and Ilaiyaraaja biopic with Arun Matheswaran. The actor is also directing Nilavukku Enmel Ennadi Kobam or NEEK, starring a bunch of upcoming actors.
