Upcoming Tamil cinema music composer Praveen Kumar breathed his last on Thursday. He was 28.

Some reports cite prolonged illness as the cause of his death.

According to reports, Praveen was getting treated for kidney-related ailments at a private hospital in Chennai before getting shifted to Omandurar GH at Royapettah, where he passed away this morning.

Hailing from Thanjavur's Vadakku Vaasal, Praveen Kumar started off as a keyboard player. He went on to score music for Raakadhan, Methagu, Kakkan, Raayar Parambarai and Bumper.

His death is condoled by Kollywood celebrities and fans. This development comes as a shock to the film fraternity since veteran singer Uma Ramanan too passed away late on Wednesday.

Praveen Kumar's funeral rites are expected to take place today at around 6 PM at his residence in his native place Thanjavur.
