Writer-director Nithilan Saminathan has announced the release date of his upcoming film Maharaja, starring Vijay Sethupathi. The film will release on June 14. The announcement comes shortly after the release of the film's trailer. The trailer shows Vijay Sethupathi's salon owner entering a police station to report missing 'Lakshmi'. When the character says that Lakshmi is not a precious item or a person, it leaves the cops perplexed.

Maharaja is the 50th film in Vijay Sethupathi's career and Nithilan's second directorial venture after Kurangu Bommai. The film also stars Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, and Natty Natraj in pivotal roles, alongside Abhirami, Aruldoss, Munishkanth, Boys Manikandan, Singam Puli, Bharathiraja, Kalki, Vinod Sagar, and Sachana Namidass.

Nithilan also wrote the dialogues for the film alongside Raam Murali.

The film is produced by Sudhan Sundaram through his Passion Studios banner and Jagadish Palanisamy under his banner, The Route. It has cinematography by Dinesh Purushothaman, music by B Ajaneesh Loknath, and editing by Philomin Raj.

Vijay Sethupathi also has Ace with director Aarumuga Kumar, Vetrimaaran's Viduthalai Part 2, Kishor Pandurang Belekar's Gandhi Talks, and Mysskin's Train in the pipeline.
