Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Basil Joseph in the lead roles, contains a callback to the 'Alagiya Laila' song from the Tamil film Ullathai Allitha. With the film, directed by Vipin Das and also starring Anaswara Rajan and Nikhila Vimal in pivotal roles, coming out on Disney+ Hotstar, the song's composer, Sirpy, has expressed his displeasure at the fact that its makers did not acknowledge him in the end credits. In a recent conversation with Cinema Vikatan, Sirpy stated that while he would not take any legal proceedings against the makers of Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil, he would demand an acknowledgement from them for the use of the song in the credits.

The makers of the film are yet to respond to Sirpy's remarks.

In a similar incident from earlier this year, Ilaiyaraja issued a legal notice to the makers of Manjummel Boys for the allegedly unauthorised use of his song 'Kanmani Anbodu' from the Kamal Haasan starrer Gunaa in their film.
