After a long wait, actor Aadhi's Sabdham now has a release date. Directed by Arivazhagan, the shoot of the Tamil-Telugu bilingual film was wrapped up last year and is set to hit theatres on February 28 next year.
Billed as a horror thriller, Sabdham stars Lakshmi Menon as the female lead, along with notable actors Laila and Simran playing prominent roles. The film also features Redin Kingsley in another significant role.
The teaser, which was released earlier this year, opens with a woman dying by suicide which opens doors to several ominous incidents occuring inside a college. Aadhi looks to be playing a teacher who also sets out to investigate the reason behind the eerie incidents where several people hear unbearable loud noises. We also see glimpses of Lakshmi Menon and Simran, but their roles are not revealed in the teaser.
In an earlier interview with CE, the director said, "Ghosts have always been identified as gory-looking creatures. In order to break away from that template, I thought it would be interesting to see a ghost that takes the shape of water or sound." He also noted that there would be an emotional aspect in Sabdham, which he hoped would resonate well with the audience. "The idea of having an emotional undercurrent in a horror film excited me after watching M Night Shyamalan's Sixth Sense (1999). I incorporated the emotional elements in Eeram, which gave a satisfying result. I hope this aspect works in favour of Sabdham too," he added.
Arivazhagan and Aadhi earlier worked in the critically acclaimed 2009 horror film Eeram. Backed by 7G Films with Aalpha Frames, a home banner of Arivazhagan, the upcoming film will mark his debut production venture.
The technical crew of Sabdham consists of S Thaman scoring the music, Arun Bathmanaban handling the cinematography, and Sabu Joseph VJ handling the editing. Arivazhagan has already worked with Thaman on his previous films, including Eeram, Vallinam and Aarathu Sinam.
