Directed by Mari's contemporary Vetrimaaran, whose films are just as rich with political themes, Viduthalai Part 2 follows the journey of Vijay Sethupathi's Perumal Vaathiyaar. The film shows how he rose up the ranks from being a teacher to being a disciple of KK (Kishore) and the leader of Makkal Padai. It tells the story of how goes down a violent route before embracing a path of peace.

Calling the Viduthalai sequel an "honest work of art," Mari wrote on X, "It has recorded the passionate politics of human and social unity at a time of need in a straightforward manner." He has also conveyed his love and best wishes to the whole crew of the film.

Besides Vijay Sethupathi, the film also stars Kishore, Manju Warrier, Soori, Rajiv Menon, Chetan, Ilavarasu, and Gautham Vasudev Menon, among others. It has music by Ilaiyaraaja, as well as cinematography by R Velraj, including multiple overhead shots in hilly areas.
